Feijão (Beans)

Most Brazilians eat rice with beans for lunch and dinner every day.

 

PORTUGUESE ENGLISH
Ingredientes: Ingredients:
2 xícaras de feijão cozido 2 cups of cooked beans
2 colheres de sopa de óleo 2 tablespoons of oil
1 cebola pequena picada 1 small chopped onion
1 dente de alho amassado 1 clove of crushed garlic
1-2 xícara(s) de água 1-2 cup(s) of water
1 folha de louro 1 bay leaf
salsinha e cebolinha (opcional) parsley and spring onion (optional)
1 colher de chá de sal 1 teaspoon of salt
1 pitada de pimenta-do-reino 1 dash of black pepper
Modo de fazer: Preparation:
1. Frite a cebola e o alho em óleo quente. 1. Sauté the onion and the garlic in hot oil.
2. Adicione o feijão, a água, todos os temperos e mexa bem. 2. Add the beans, the water, all the seasonings and stir well.
3. Deixe ferver em fogo médio até o caldo do feijão engrossar.   3. Bring it to a boil under medium heat until the liquid is thicker.
4. Coloque o feijão numa tigela e sirva com arroz branco. 4. Put the beans in a bowl and serve it with Brazilian style rice.

Remark:  You can add chopped bacon to the garlic and onion. Bacon adds flavor to the beans.
