Feijão cozido (Cooked beans)

You will need cooked beans for some Brazilians dishes like "feijão" (beans), "tutu de feijão" (mashed beans), "sopa de feijão" (beans soup), etc.

PORTUGUESE ENGLISH
Ingredientes: Ingredients:
1 xícara de feijão 2 cups of beans
água water
Modo de fazer: Preparation:
1. Deixe o feijão de molho de um dia para o outro. 1. Soak the beans overnight.
2. Escorra a água e coloque o feijão na panela de pressão. 2. Drain the water and put the beans in the pressure cooker.
3. Adicione água suficiente (o dobro da quantidade do feijão) e deixe cozinhar por 30-45 minutos ou até o feijão ficar macio. 3. Add enough water (double the amount of beans) and let it cook for 30-45 minutes or until the beans are tender.

Remarks:

  • Choose any brown beans. "Pinto" beans are very good and available in many supermarkets.

  • Note that one cup of uncooked beans will double when you cook it.

  • Cooking the beans in a pressure cooker will reduce the cooking time.

  • If you don't have a pressure cooker, cook the beans in a saucepan, but make sure the beans are always covered by water.

  • Don't drain the water once the beans are cooked.

  • You can freeze the cooked beans in storage containers.
