Rabanada (French Toast)

"Rabanada" is a traditional Brazilian Christmas dish.

Ingredientes: Ingredients:
1 copo leite 1 glass of milk
4-6 fatias de pão de fôrma sem casca 4-6 slices of crustless toast bread
1 ovo batido 1 beaten egg
3 colheres de óleo para fritar 3 tablespoons of oil for pan-frying
açúcar e canela a gosto sugar and cinnamon to taste
Modo de fazer: Preparation:
1. Molhe as fatias de pão (uma a uma) rapidamente no leite. 1. Dip the slices of bread (one by one) quickly in the milk.
2. Passe as fatias de pão no ovo batido. 2. Dip the slices of bread in the beaten egg.
3. Frite as fatias de pão dos dois lados numa frigideira anti-aderente até dourar. 3. Pan-fry the slices of bread on both sides in a non-stick frying pan until golden brown.
4. Coloque as rabanadas numa toalha de papel. 4. Put the French toast on a paper towel.
5. Polvilhe as rabanadas com açúcar e canela a gosto. 5. Sprinkle the French toast with sugar and cinnamon to taste.
6. Sirva as rabanadas imediatamente. 6. Serve the French toast immediately.

Remarks:

  • Some people eat "rabanadas" at Christmas Eve, but many people make "rabanadas" just to get rid of stale bread.
  • You can use either stale French baguette or fresh crustless toast bread. I prefer crustless toast bread.
  • French toast is a delicious snack and it goes well with a cup of coffee or tea.
